Google Launches Universal Cart AI Shopping Tool in the United States

Google’s new Universal Cart lets U.S. shoppers save items from multiple retailers, track price changes, and receive restock alerts, all powered by AI-driven commerce protocols.

What Universal Cart Does

Universal Cart acts as a centralized basket that collects product links from Google Search, the Gemini app, and participating retailer sites. Users can add items while browsing and return later to find their selections intact, eliminating the need to repeat searches.

The tool monitors saved listings for price drops and stock changes, sending push notifications when a deal appears or an out‑of‑stock item becomes available again. It also surfaces applicable promo codes and factors in credit‑card rewards when suggesting payment options.

Underpinning the experience is Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard that enables AI agents to interact with checkout systems across different merchants. By integrating UCP, Google aims to streamline the path from discovery to purchase while giving developers a shared framework for agentic commerce.

For AI infrastructure providers, the launch highlights growing demand for low‑latency, scalable backends that can support real‑time product data synchronization and notification services across millions of users.
