McKinsey Trials AI Client Simulations in Entry-Level Hiring

Consulting giant McKinsey is piloting a 10-minute AI-driven client conversation for business-analyst candidates, with human evaluators observing how applicants handle realistic scenarios.

McKinsey & Company has begun testing an AI-powered client simulation as part of its interview process for undergraduate business-analyst roles. According to The Wall Street Journal, the 10-minute exchange is designed to reflect roughly 80 percent of the situations consultants face daily, without veering into extreme or adversarial behavior.

Crucially, the AI does not score candidates. Human interviewers remain in the room to assess communication, problem-solving, and adaptability as applicants navigate the simulated engagement. The pilot is running in a limited number of offices before any broader rollout.

Why it matters for GPU / AI infrastructure

Enterprise-grade conversational AI — especially low-latency, multi-turn simulations — demands significant inference compute. Workloads like McKinsey's assessment tool run on GPU-accelerated clusters that must scale on demand while maintaining consistent latency. For AI cloud providers, this signals growing demand for reliable, high-throughput inference capacity tailored to professional-services workflows.
